How to Restore Your Jawline Naturally
Have you noticed how many photo filters and apps now offer a "jawline enhancement" feature? There's a reason for that—a defined jawline creates a powerful visual impact on our overall appearance.
As we move through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond, it's common to start to see changes in our lower face and neck area. The skin and muscles that once created a sharp, defined angle between face and neck may begin to soften, creating what some call "jowls" or a less defined jawline.
But here's what many women don't realize: Your jawline is one area where face yoga can create some of the most dramatic improvements!
🍃 Why your jawline changes with age:
What's actually happening when our jawlines begin to soften? Several factors come into play:
Muscle atrophy - The muscles that support your lower face (particularly the platysma in your neck and the masseter along your jaw) may weaken with age and disuse
Loss of skin elasticity - Decreased collagen and elastin production means skin doesn't "snap back" as readily
Shifting fat pads - The natural fat pads that give our face youthful fullness can descend slightly over time
Bone density changes - The jawbone itself may experience some minor resorption, providing less structural support
The good news? Many of these changes can be addressed through targeted face yoga practices!
The face yoga approach to a more sculpted jawline:
Face yoga works on your jawline from multiple angles:
Toning the muscles that support your lower face and neck
Building muscle in the cheeks which naturally creates a more lifted appearance
Improving circulation, as well as collagen & elastin production to enhance skin elasticity
Releasing tension in the neck and lower face that can draw the facial skin downward
Stimulating the lymphatic system to reduce puffiness and fluid retention
It's not uncommon for women to stumble onto face yoga when doing online research about the possibility of a lower face and neck lift. That was the case for my student, Cara, who decided to give face yoga a try before pulling the trigger on a more invasive procedure. After just two months of consistent practice, the changes in her jawline were undeniable. What impressed her most was that the results looked completely natural—still her, just a bit more toned and lifted.
Want to work on your own lower face? Here's one of my favorite simple exercises you can try right now to target your jawline:
Sit comfortably with a straight spine
Tilt your head back slightly to look up at about a 45 degree angle
Just out your chin slightly
Tap the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth ten times (at a rate of about once per second)
Return your head to neutral position
Repeat 3-5 times
This exercise engages the muscles under your chin and along your neck, providing a gentle lift and tone to the entire jawline area. Try it now—you'll feel those muscles working right away! (You can also place your hand under your chin to feel more of what's going on in there)
For even better results, combine targeted exercises like this with face yoga massage techniques that stimulate circulation and fascial release in the lower face.
The best part? Unlike fillers or surgical approaches, face yoga's effects on your jawline are cumulative and sustainable.
With consistent practice, you're not just masking the appearance of jowls or a softening jawline—you're addressing the underlying causes by toning muscles and improving skin quality from the inside out.
And remember—a sculpted jawline isn't about looking 25 again. It's about helping your face maintain its natural architecture so it can continue to express the amazing woman you've become.
